Songfacts®:

  • Dick Shawn voiced The Snow Miser in the 1974 Rankin/Bass animated special The Year Without A Santa Claus. The Snow Miser, who controls the world's wintry weather, isn't too concerned when Santa Claus gets a cold and cancels his annual plans to deliver Christmas gifts. Forget old St. Nick, it wouldn't be the yuletide season without "Mr. White Christmas" himself creating a winter wonderland. No, we're not talking about Bing Crosby. The Snow Miser brags, "Whatever I touch turns to snow in my clutch." Unfortunately, his jealous brother The Heat Miser loves the hot weather and thwarts plans to let it snow in his steamy domain, the one thing that would inspire the Southtown residents to believe in Santa again.
  • Maury Laws, a composer and arranger who worked on music for the Rankin/Bass special Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, wrote this and the similar "Heat Miser" with Jules Bass. More than 40 years after the film's debut, Laws said he still gets grown-up fans ringing his doorbell asking if he wrote the Miser Brothers tunes.
  • Before voicing The Snow Miser, Dick Shawn appeared in the '60s comedies It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Producers.
  • Argentinean actor Juan Chioran took over the late actor's role for the 2008 sequel A Miser Brothers' Christmas.
