Songfacts®:

  • Barry Manilow produced the Dionne album, and this song was written by his frequent collaborator Adrienne Anderson along with Soul music legend Isaac Hayes. It's one of several popular songs to use a déjà vu theme, in this case the fond feelings from long ago are triggered by a man in the singer's life.
  • Warwick won the 1979 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for this song. The same year, she won for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "I'll Never Love This Way Again," making her the first woman to win both categories in the same year.
