Songfacts®:

  • Frontman Carl Barat told The Independent newspaper May 30, 2008, about this celebration of a nation, in particular London: "You have to accept everyone in their colors and classes, whether good or bad or gay or bohemian. London and England are interchangeable in it, which is a bit naughty. I see London as an organism, and for me it's the heart of England."
  • Nik Leman, who produced this song along with the rest of the album, was an unknown name to many. Borat explained to Uncut magazine February 2008: "He's an ex-Green Beret who's turned to music. He keeps us in line and is an old friend of (manager) Alan McGee's. We didn't want to go with a name producer for this one."
  • The song's video refers to the 1973 British movie The Wicker Man.
