Songfacts®:

  • This features vocals by rising UK singer Nao, who used to be Kwabs' backing singer. The song was recorded at a precise 82 bpm, 50 percent slower than most drum 'n' bass. Disclosure's Guy Lawrence commented to NME: "Her music is wicked, and she self-produces a lot of it. 'Superego' has a dubstep rhythm so it's a little bit further away from our normal sound. It makes me think of bubbles, so maybe it's bubstep?"
  • Howard Lawrence told Spin that Nao does not suffer from a superego: "She really knew how much she was supposed to be giving or not giving. She's a producer so she could have easily dived in and been like, 'Use this drum sound.' She actually said at one point, 'You guys are just better at drums, so can you just do it? I'm just going to do the singing.'"
