Songfacts®:

  • This instrumental opens Asylum, the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Disturbed. It was originally meant to be combined with the title track to make a 7:30 long song, but instead it was split into two parts in order to open the record and set the mood. Also it was felt the longer version of "Asylum" might not be played on the radio so it was divided up for a radio edit.
  • Asylum was Disturbed's fourth consecutive album to debut at #1 in the US, where it topped three other charts: Top Alternative Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums, and Top Rock Albums.
  • After self-producing their previous album, Indestructible, the band took up the reins again for Asylum. Their first three releases were helmed by Chicago-based producer Johnny K, who also produced albums for 3 Doors Down, Staind, Plain White T's, and Megadeth.
