Songfacts®:

  • This track features DJ Snake's Latin beats over which Cardi B, Ozuna and Selena Gomez sing a mixture of Spanish and English. Ozuna kicks off the song with a smooth verse about a wild night in the club in which he comes on to the two female singers. Cardi B and Selena Gomez then sing the next two verses where they tease Ozuna's attempts at seduction and play hard to get.
  • According to Genius, "Taki Taki" is neither an actual Spanish or an English word and is just an onomatopoeia used for a "better sound." However, according to Urban Dictionary, "Taki Taki" means "The illness to dance and/or sing."
  • In a video interview for Billboard, DJ Snake said he made the song with Ozuna to begin with, as he "wanted to make a reggaeton club-like hit." After Ozuna "crushed it," Snake decided he wanted a feminine touch on the record. Ozuna was pleasantly surprised when he found out that artists of Cardi and Gomez's caliber had been added to the track, "I was like, wow, wow," he said.
  • Cardi and Ozuna previously collaborated on "La Modelo" in 2017, but otherwise none of the artists on the track have worked together before.
  • Fans of Ozuna and Cardi B criticized Gomez for her Spanish not being on par with the others. We consider this to be a tad unfair as unlike Ozuna and Cardi, Spanish is not Gomez's native language, though she has Hispanic heritage. She has admitted in the past to not being fluent in her father's native tongue.
  • Ozuna admitted to Billboard that the "Taki Taki" lyric doesn't mean anything to him. He explained that he tried to put lyrics to the music and what he came up with was the clack clack of the drums so he sang a similar sound which became "Taki Taki."

"I don't know what Taki Taki means. I really don't," he said. "We just record songs and we don't know where they are going to go."
  • All four artists performed the song together during DJ Snake's set at the 2019 Coachella Festival in Indio, California.
  • "Taki Taki" was a huge international hit, topping the charts in multiple countries, including Argentina, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Venezuela.
