Songfacts®:

  • After working together on Dobie Gray's hit single "The 'In' Crowd," songwriter Billy Page and his arranger brother Gene Page re-teamed for the follow-up single, "See You At the Go Go." Go-Go nightclubs were sweeping the nation in the mid-'60s, and were popular for their signature dancers who wore miniskirts and knee-high boots. Although the song fizzled in comparison to his previous hit on the charts, it became popular among the nightclub set.
  • Gray was backed on this song by members of The Wrecking Crew, a group of prolific session musicians who played on most of the hits that came out of Los Angeles in the '60s. Hal Blaine played timpani and drums, Larry Knechtel handled guitars, Al De Lory was on keyboards, and Carol Kaye - the only first-call female bass player in Hollywood at the time - played bass.
