Songfacts®:

  • "Need to Know" finds Doja Cat fantasizing about a guy she's heard is really special in bed. A "friend of a friend" has informed her he's a "10 out of 10" between the sheets, so Doja "needs to know" if his sexual prowess is as good as she imagines it to be. She wants him to come on by and spend a sensual night with her.
  • Dr. Luke supplied the trap-infused, spacious beat. The hitmaking producer is Doja's key collaborator, having co-written many of her hits, including "Say So," "Kiss Me More," and "You Right."
  • The raunchy sex jam is rife with explicit sexual demands and adult language. Despite this (or more likely because of this) Doja released this as a promotional single from Planet Her and it charted worldwide.
  • Miles & AJ (Billie Eilish, MGK) directed the video, setting it in the futuristic city environment of the fictional "Planet Her." Each clip filmed for the Planet Her album takes place on different locations across the planet, and this visual finds Doja exploring its nightlife environment. Canadian musician Grimes and American actress Ryan Destiny both make cameo appearances.
