Songfacts®:

  • Dolly Parton proclaims she's "hot as a pistol of flamin' desire" on this country-meets-disco burner inspired by her nights out at Studio 54. She recalled in her 2020 book, Songteller: "Everybody was dancing. I didn't. I just liked watching, sitting there and being part of the whole scene. I'd just sit on the couch and talk to Andy Warhol. My friend Sandy Gallin, my gay manager, would get me out there every once in a while to dance a little with him. But I mostly just loved the commotion and the excitement and the thrill of that whole scene. It was the hottest thing going at the time."
  • Dolly is a country girl at heart but she's a lover of all kinds of music (she even covered Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven"!). After successfully crossing over to pop with her previous album, Here You Come Again, featuring a hit title track penned by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, she set her sights on the pop market again with Heartbreaker.
  • Although some of her previous songs like "Jolene" were revamped for the dance floor, "Baby, I'm Burnin'" was Dolly's first song purposely aimed at the disco craze, and it landed at #15 on the Dance chart.
  • Heartbreaker is Dolly's 20th solo album and her third consecutive #1 on the Country chart. It also peaked at #27 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
  • This was used on the "Two Doors Down" episode of the 2019 Netflix anthology series Dolly Parton's Heartstrings. Dolly appeared as the wedding singer near the end of the episode and sang it as part of her set.
