Songfacts®:

  • In an interview with American Songwriter magazine published in 1990, Dolly Parton told Deborah Evans Price that she wrote her first song aged five. This sounds an ambitious claim for anyone to make, but Parton was something of a child prodigy. She began playing the guitar aged seven and was mentored by her uncle with whom she co-wrote her earliest recordings. "Little Tiny Tassel Top," said Parton, was "about a little corn cob doll I had, because we didn't have store-bought toys." Her mother wrote it down for her. Sadly the song was never recorded and does not appear to have survived. >>>
