  • Don Moen's sister-in-law, Susan Phelps, and her husband Craig, were involved in a car accident during a ski trip from their Oklahoma home to a resort in Colorado. All four of the Phelps' children were thrown out of the vehicle. Three of them survived but the fourth, Jeremy, they found lying dead by a nearby fence.

Craig and Susan Phelps asked Don Moen to sing at Jeremy's funeral. He recalled in the St. Augustine Record: "I boarded a plane the next day, March 19, 1987, and headed for Oklahoma. As I sat on the plane, wondering what I should say to them, I began to read in the book of Isaiah. My eyes went to chapter 43, verse 19, '... I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Instantly, the Lord gave me a song to sing to them. I sketched it out on a legal pad, intending to sing it at the funeral. However, they had already planned to ask me to sing another song, so I sang their request instead."

"After the funeral, I was sitting with them, holding them in my arms. I cried with them, and through my tears I said, 'The Lord gave me a song for you.' And I began singing...

    "God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way..."

"I made a taped copy of the song for Susan," Don continued. "I knew that when all of the people had gone, and everything was said and done, there would be days when she needed to hear that God was working in ways that she couldn't see."

Slowly, Don began sharing the song with others outside of the Phelps family and her soon found that it was a message for the whole church relating to Isaiah 43:19. "I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

  • Phil from Port Of Spain, TrinidadI first heard this song when i accepected chris as a teenager back in Trinidad. I migrated to the states where i been living for the past 20yrs. Although i hasnt been following christ for some years now, this song seems to be the song that slways remind of my walk with Jesus an all the doors he open for me since kiving in the US. This song is truly a word from GOD. It brings tears to my tears eyes anytime i listens to it.
  • Bill from AustraliaHas been a special song to me for many years. Working with refugees in Europe, especially those from African nations, this song was their favourite of those sung in church. Many were in the asylum process and didn’t know if they might be sent back to their country of origin. This was for some an extremely frightening possibility and source of despair. To see their spirits lifted up in worship was so encouraging.
