Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Drake extolling the virtues of hard toil, explaining that the millions he's earned from the rap game are down to him working on his music through the night. The titular '6' is a reference to Toronto's area codes, 416 and 647, which is often used by OVO Crew members in their songs.
  • Drake starts the track by comparing himself to Louis Williams, who is the 6th man for the Toronto Raptors. The combo guard made the gossip columns in 2014 when it was reported that he was dating two women at the same time. According to the reports, both women not only knew about each other, but were happy for the three of them to go out in public and spend time together.
  • Drake ends the song with an interpolation of The Roots' "On The Floor" which features the voice of Erykah Badu.
  • Toronto producer Jahmar "Daxz" Carter co-produced the song with frequent Drake collaborator Noah "40" Shebib. "It was quick," Daxz told Complex regarding the recording. "I basically did all the drums, but the idea for the beat came from him putting two of my beats together as one to get the bounce, and he did the melodies on it and everything."
