Songfacts®:

  • Here, Drake responds to Pusha T's diss track "Infrared," where the former Clipse member references Drizzy's ghostwriting accusations. The two artists have been beefing each other for several years beginning with Pusha's cut "Exodus 23:1," which was released in 2012.
  • The word "duppy," which is Jamaican patois for "ghost," references the ghost-writing accusations against Drake, which he addresses during the song. It also has a double meaning that Drizzy is saying that Pusha is a ghost of the past and isn't relevant in 2018.

Whoever supposedly making me hits, but then got no hits sound like they need me
My hooks did it, my lyrics did it, my spirit did it

Drake defends his songwriting process by pointing out his alleged ghostwriter Quentin Miller hasn't had any hits of his own.
  • Pusha T is the president of Kanye West's record label G.O.O.D. Music and it was Yeezy, who produced "Infrared." Drake also takes shots during the song at West.

I'm too resilient, get out your feelings
It's gonna be a cruel summer for you

Cruel Summer was a collaborative album by G.O.O.D. Music recording artists, released on September 14, 2012.
  • Drake boasts that by releasing this song, he has revived Pusha's career.

Tell 'Ye we got an invoice comin' to you
Considering we just sold another 20 for you

After Pusha responded with a tweet requesting the invoice, Drake sent a bill for $100,000 addressed to G.O.O.D Music and Def Jam for professional services of "promotional assistance and career reviving." Sharing the invoice on Instagram, the OVO Sound leader captioned it, "You're welcome."

  • Jamal from Cleveland this is the perfect pandemic song about strength and life afterwards, Drake is a man of words, he can spell and sing the words for all to hear, I recognize his singing on the radio and can instantly pickout fresh food from the grocery store.
