Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Drake giving thanks for the lavish life and business empire he has built. However, he has no wish to rest on his laurels and instead he intends to keep pushing forward for his family.

Couldn't picture wifin' Braden when I was pumpin' gas on road trips to go from Cincinnati on to Dayton
    I couldn't gauge it
I wanna thank God for workin' way harder than Satan
He's playin' favorites, it feels amazin'

In a similar vein to "God's Plan," Drake, who follows the Jewish faith, dedicates his success to Jehovah and thanks Him for helping avoid the trappings of the devil.
  • The ominous sonic was crafted by Atlanta producer Nonstop Da Hitman (Yo Gotti's "Errbody," Cardi B's "Drip") along with frequent Drake collaborator PARTYNEXTDOOR. Speaking in a Rolling Stone interview, the songwriter/producer began working on Scorpion in February 2018 and he asked Hitman to send him any beats he came up "before you give it to anybody else."

One submission was this instrumental idea, which the Atlanta producer came up with in his Atlanta home during a snowstorm. "It looked like I was in a cloud when I opened up my blinds," Hitman recalled. "It was real angelic, so I started playing around with that choir sample. Party wrote a song to it and gave it to Drake. He flipped his lid when he heard it."
  • French Montana contributes some uncredited vocals.
