Songfacts®:

  • This ode to fame and debauchery features Drake's mentor Lil Wayne. Drake's right-hand man Noah "40" Shebib told MTV News that, Weezy who was executive producer for Take Care, gave them complete creative freedom on the album: "He trusts us enough to take chances; he'll go there with his raps," he said. "Not just getting on the song, but he'll participate [in the song's theme]. On 'HYFR,' he'll show that introspective side of himself along with Drake. That's amazing, and those are some of Wayne's illest moments, always have been for him."
  • The song title stands for "hell yeah fu--in' right," which apparently is something Weezy and Drake yell at journalists who ask dumb questions.
  • The tune's rock-influenced platform was delivered by Tyler "T-Minus" Williams, whose previous productions include Lil Wayne's "She Will" and DJ Khaled's "I'm on One," (both featuring Drake).
  • The song samples Texan rapper E.S.G's 1995 track "Swanging and Banging."
  • The song's music video was filmed on March 21, 2012 and shot by Director X. It contains actual footage of Drake's first Bar Mitzvah after he recommitted to the Jewish faith. Birdman, DJ Khaled and Trey Songz all make cameo appearances in the clip as well as several of Drake's childhood friends (including Noah "40" Shebib).
  • This references the 1987 George Strait hit "All My Ex's Live In Texas."
