Songfacts®:

  • Since releasing his debut album Thank Me Later in 2010, Drake has been one of the world's best-selling musicians. Drizzy's fans eagerly await each new record, and when Certified Lover Boy was delayed because the rapper needed knee surgery, anticipation was ramped even higher. Here, Drake says sorry to his "sons worldwide" for the delay.

I apologize for my absence, I know I left you without an annual drop
And now I'm standing right here

Drake's fans don't need to wait any longer because "daddy's home."
  • Though Drake refers to "daddy" being home in his lyrics, he calls himself "papi" in the title. This references his Instagram username, @champagnepapi. "Papi's Home" is the second song on Certified Lover Boy and is preceded by "Champagne Poetry" on the tracklisting.
  • Drake merges his rhymes on the intro and outro with sampled smooth lines from Montell Jordan's 1995 song "Daddy's Home."
  • Drake's single verse is a braggadocio one. He boasts about being at the top of the rap game and his lavish lifestyle, while dissing hip-hop competitors that collaborate with pop artists.
  • Nicki Minaj offers a spoken-word cameo during the interlude, cockily commenting that Drake would have to pay her to be her son.
  • South Carolina producer Supah Mario produced the song with help from Oriyomi Ojelade, Jarrel Young and Mark Borino. This is Drake's fourth collaboration with Supah Mario, following "Ice Melts," "Blue Tint" and "What's Next."
