Songfacts®:

  • This song finds a confused and conflicted Drake searching for the right words to say to an ex. On the first three verses, he is bitter and dismissive for the emotional pressure she placed upon him, while the hook finds him crooning for her to give him time and understanding. By the fourth verse, Drake seems to finally find his words and switches styles, rapping his final rhymes.
  • The song's beat was created by Noah "40" Shebib, Drake's longtime engineer and producer. 40, who was integral to all of Dreezy's previous albums, handled or co-handled 13 of Views' 20 tracks. In his September 2015 Fader cover story, Drake explained: "If I want to make the make the album I want to make, I have to go find him."
  • 40 samples here Ray J's "One Wish," a track from the R&B singer's 2005 album Raydiation. Ray J's sister is later sampled on another Views track "Fire & Desire."
