Songfacts®:

  • This slow and sultry track from Canadian rapper/singer Drake's second studio album, Take Care, was produced by Noah "40" Shebib and features his label mate and mentor Lil Wayne. The song was leaked online prior to the album's release on October 20, 2011.
  • The song finds Drake trying to find a real beau amongst all the different girls from different cities that he meets. In the bridge, the Toronto MC connects to "Houstatlantavegas," a cut from his 2009 So Far Gone mixtape, which Drizzy says inspired the story line on Take Care. It found him singing of a girl he knew, who was lost in a world fixated on money and fame, and in this song Drake draws a parallel to his Houstatlantavegas woman during his search for the "Real Her."
  • The track also features Outkast rapper Andre 3000, who spits about his girl, "sad as hell listening to Adele."
  • Wayne raps on his verse, "I don't want be in the blind but sometimes I Stevie Wonder about her." Cracking a blind Stevie Wonder joke was not one of Weezy's more diplomatic moves, especially as the R&B legend also features on Take Care.
  • The genesis of this song lies with a reverse piano loop that Shebib had given to Drake a year before they began working on Take Care. Drake eventually came back with a song idea off of that one sample. "What ends up happening a lot of times with our records is that, because I can do a lot of things in the studio, whether it be play instruments or produce or edit or run Pro Tools or edit vocals, whatever the case may be, I help him get out his ideas," said 40 to MTV News. "I think that's the goal of any good producer, is to make sure the artist is delivering what they want."
