Songfacts®:

  • Yebba is Abigail Elizabeth Smith, a soulful R&B singer-songwriter from West Memphis, Arkansas. (Her performing name is Abbey written backwards). Here, Drake takes a backseat and lets Yebba croon the entire romantic interlude.
  • Yebba addresses a love interest, begging him to give her an opportunity to show her love. She admits not having shown an interest in the past, which is why he's being cautious, but now, she swears, her feelings are genuine.
  • Showcasing on this Drake track was great timing for Yebba, who released her own album, Dawn, a week later.
  • Yebba wrote the song with James Francies. The American jazz musician and composer worked with Childish Gambinio on his 3.15.20 album, co-writing five tracks and playing keyboard instruments on several others.
  • This is not the first time Drake has namechecked an artist on a song title. More Life's "Jorja Interlude" is named after and features the English R&B vocalist Jorja Smith and "Skepta Interlude" from the same album is titled after and features the British grime artist Skepta.

Other interludes where Drake hands the reins entirely over to another artist include Take Care's "Buried Alive Interlude" (Kendrick Lamar) and Views' "Summers Over Interlude" (Majid Jordan).
  • Yebba has appeared on songs by other A-list artists, including Sam Smith (" No Peace"), Ed Sheeran ("Best Part of Me") and Mark Ronson (three tracks on his Late Night Feelings album). In 2019, she won her first Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance with PJ Morton for their cover of "How Deep Is Your Love."
