Songfacts®:

  • Dream was originally formed in October 1998 when talent scout Judith Fontaine chose four Californian teenagers - Holly Blake-Arnstein, Melissa Schuman, Ashley Poole and Alex Chester - to comprise a new girl group. A few months later Alex Chester left the group and was replaced by Diana Ortiz. Dream parted ways with Fontaine after around a year and shortly thereafter, the group was signed by Sean "Diddy" Combs to his Bad Boy record label. Fontaine later sued Combs and the group, but lost her court case.
  • This song about a girl trying to steal another girl's boyfriend by telling her that "he loves me; he loves you not" was released as their debut single. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at #17 in the UK Singles Chart. The follow-up single, "This Is Me," enjoyed a fair amount of success as well, peaking at #39 in the US, but subsequent releases failed to chart and Bad Boy Records dropped Dream in 2003. The group disbanded afterwards, although their dissolution was never formally announced.
  • All four group members were 15 or 16-years-old at the time of their debut hit.
  • The music video for the song re-used the white room that appeared in 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye." Director Marcus Raboy (Rihanna, Shakira) tried to splice together some of the girls' best moves to hide the fact that they couldn't dance. >>>
