Songfacts®:

  • This is about the flights that happened immediately prior to the plane crash that killed Lynyrd Skynyrd members Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines and Ronnie Van Zant. Twice before the last fatal flight, the rented plane had engine troubles, the pilots told the passengers not to worry. During the last flight, the plane was supposed to be repaired in Baton Rouge because the mechanic was in Texas. Several band members did not want to continue to ride the plane when Ronnie Van Zant stated, "Shut up and get on the plane." >>>
