  • The Dropkick Murphys wrote "Time To Go" for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. It appears on their album Blackout, and also on a promotional CD the Bruins organization released.

    The Murphys formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, which is a suburb of Boston and crazy about the local teams. The band are baseball fans as well: they also recorded "Tessie" for the Boston Red Sox.
  • The chorus goes:

    Go! Go! Black and gold!
    Old-time hockey, bar the door


    Black and gold are the official Bruins colors.

    "Old-time hockey" references the team's signature style of play, which is known for being physically brutal (those outside Boston often go so far as to say "dirty").

    "Bar the door" adds to the idea of the team's rough style, essentially saying, "Block off the exits so the visiting team can't escape from the whooping that's about to ensue."

    The red line refers to the Boston train (The T) route running through Quincy, which is where the Murphys are from. The red line connects to the orange, which leads to the TD Garden, where the Bruins play.

    Causeway street runs just south of the Garden. It's full of restaurants and bars and is where Bruins fans go before and after the games.

  • Rancourt's ready, it's time to take to the ice

    Rene Rancourt is a singer who performed the US and Canadian national anthems at Bruins home games for 42 years. He sang his last anthem for the team on April 8, 2018.
