Songfacts®:

  • "End Of An Era" is the opening song from Dua Lipa's third album, Radical Optimism. The pop star dives headfirst into the sparkling pool of new love, complete with breezy harmonies and a tropical house beat that would make even the most jaded heart sway.
  • Lipa's new connection feels like the real deal, a potential end to her single era. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But that's the beauty of "radical optimism," a concept Lipa stumbled upon thanks to a friend in 2021. Think of it as the art of taking life's punches in stride, refusing to get bogged down by negativity.

"I've always seen the positive side of things, of being able to grow and move forward and change your perspective regardless of what's happening in your life - whether it's heartbreak, whether it's a friendship, whether it's a relationship, whether it's just growing and seeing things differently," she explained to Apple Music's Zane Lowe. "I think it's a big part of maturing."
  • Dua Lipa co-wrote "End Of An Era" with Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker; Tobias Jesso Jr. (Adele's "To Be Loved," Harry Styles ("Boyfriends"); PC Music's Danny L Harle (known for his work with PinkPantheress and Caroline Polachek); and her longtime collaborator Caroline Ailin (co-writer of the smash hit "New Rules").
  • Production duties fall to Parker and Harle, who Lipa credits with reviving the song after a near-death creative experience.

"I was like 'This isn't right' so I actually called off that session," Lipa confessed on the Zach Sang Show. "I was like we're going to leave Kevin and Danny to just work on the track for the day and we're going to leave because I feel like we're getting block and we're hitting a wall. We're not getting the right melodies. It just didn't feel right so we left. We came back the next day and we heard the track with fresh ears. We were like ready and it just gave us a whole new lease of energy."
