Songfacts®:

  • Dua Lipa wrote this club banger with Sophie Frances Cooke, who records under the name Frances. The English singer-songwriter's first successful placement came when her piano ballad "Grow" featured on an advert for Amazon. Frances' other songwriting credits include Jess Glynne' s "All I Am."
  • Lyrically, the song finds Dua Lipa singing about loving someone so much it's making her lose her mind and "hallucinate."
  • Stuart Price and AJ Lewis produced this trippy, house music-inspired song. Critics have compared Price's work on this tune to his nu-disco production on Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor album.
  • Dua Lipa told Apple Music this is the Future Nostalgia track she can't wait to play at festivals. "I just wanted this to be like a fun '90s dance track," the songstress said. "It felt so freeing. This one's my festival song. Whenever I make songs, I imagine what they'd be like if I performed them at Glastonbury. I knew there was no way I could do a festival without this song."
  • The glittery video, directed by The Mill's Lisha Tan and animated by the design experts at The Mill, encapsulates the song's psychedelic vibe. We see a cartoon Dua Lipa taking the stage at a Studio 54-esque club, where she enters a bizarre world packed with eclectic and fun characters including floating smiling butterflies, dancing vegetables, and giant pink unicorns before blasting through outer space.
  • Co-producer SG Lewis told Genius that he'd known Dua Lipa for a long time from being in the same London musician circles. Lewis first came up with the song idea with Frances, who is friends with Lipa. "We had like sort of rough structures of what the song would come to be," he said. "And we played it to Joe Kentish who was at A&R, and he then sent it to Dua, and then she hit me up and was like, 'Hey, this song, this is awesome."
  • Lewis and Dua Lipa had collaborated on one previous occasion when the songstress recruited Lewis for a remix of her 2017 single "New Rules."
