Songfacts®:

  • "Cold Outside" is all about the huge rise in homelessness in Seattle. Duff McKagan has given much of his own time to help out those living on the streets in his home city. Duff and his wife, Susan, visited the Seattle jungle where he met some local homeless people.

"In my early days I was in similar situations" he recalled, "so I know what it's like to not have anyone to turn to and sometimes need a helping hand to get back on my feet. I know many know others in need and I am hoping that, if we come together, we can help make a real difference."
  • The track, along with the rest of Tenderness, was recorded in collaboration with country artist Shooter Jennings.
  • The song's music video addresses the growing homeless crisis facing the US. It was made available on December 2, 2019 - "Giving Tuesday." The release coincided with a Propeller campaign that benefits Seattle's Union Gospel Mission.

The visual was designed to help raise awareness and support during the holiday season for the Mission and their work to provide emergency care and long-term recovery services to the hurting and homeless people in the greater Seattle area.
