Songfacts®:

  • Dug Pinnick, best known as the bass-playing frontman for King's X, wrote this song about a good friend who was addicted to heroin. They were roommates, which was difficult for Dug because he was sure this guy was going to kill himself.

"I was at my wits' end because I wanted to save him, and he had OD'd a couple of times," Pinnick told Songfacts. "It was just a good person who didn't deserve it and didn't want it. But just somehow, the Oxycontin thing, when people take it for pain and they have an addictive nature, they can go down the rabbit hole. And that song was about him."

This story has a happy ending: Dug's friend kicked the habit and made it out alive.
  • Pinnick released "I Can't Fight This Feeling" on his fifth solo album, Joy Bomb. He says of the album title, "'joy bomb' is something that explodes joy, or blows up joy - to destroy it."
