Songfacts®:

  • "Daisy Dukes" are the kind of very short cut-off jean shorts popularized by Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke in the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard from 1979-1985 (Jessica Simpson put on the Daisys for the 2005 movie). They were a rural fashion in the '80s, but stated showing up on city girls in the '90s, to the delight of many men. This song is a tribute to the girls who wear them, punctuated by the hook:

Come on baby kick those Dazzeys
Look at them girls with the Dazzey Duks on

The song is titled "Dazzey Duks" possibly to avoid copyright issues with the TV series.
  • "Dazzey Duks" was one of the big hits of the '90s with a Miami bass sound: super thick bass beats and shouted hooks. The 2 Live Crew were the most famous act in this genre, but the Miami bass songs that pushed into the mainstream were "Dazzey Duks," "Tootsee Roll" by 69 Boyz and "Da Dip" by Freak Nasty, and "C'mon N' Ride It (The Train)" by Quad City DJ's.
  • Duice was the duo of "L.A. Sno" Brown and Anthony "Creo-D" Darlington, who met in the Army when they were stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia. "Dazzey Duks" was their only hit; they released two albums before calling it quits.
  • This song was first released in 1992 on a small Atlanta label owned by the producer Tony Mercedes, but when it started getting club play, it got picked up by Bellmark Records, a new label started by Al Bell, known for his work at the soul label Stax. Bellmark released the song in 1993, and the song was hit that summer, going to #12 in America in July. It eventually sold over 2 million copies.

Bellmark had one more hit before they folded: "Whoomp! There It Is" by Tag Team.
  • Catherine Bach, the original Daisy Duke, appears in the video, as does David Faustino, who played Bud Bundy on the TV series Married... with Children.
