  • Dum Dum Girls got their name by combining two of their influences. The moniker was derived from The Vaselines' album Dum Dum and "Dum Dum Boys," a song from Iggy Pop's The Idiot album.
  • Frontwoman Dee Dee Penny used to be in a Jefferson Airplane tribute band, but her stage fright was so bad that she would sometimes drink just to be able to perform. She told The VPME that Dum Dum Girls is different because they all "feed off of and support each other."
  • Dum Dum Girls once met actor Jude Law by accident. After a gig opening for MGMT in London, Law brought his son and his son's friends backstage to meet MGMT. Dee Dee Penny noticed Law in the hallway and he deliberately stopped to tell her that her band's show was great.
  • Dee Dee Penny is not just a songwriter but a writer in general. She used to write creative fiction that embellished real events but now writes poetry while on tour. She also cites some fellow songwriters as her favorite poets, such as Patti Smith and Nick Cave.
  • Dee Dee Penny actually found her drummer through Facebook. After seeing her perform with a band called Midnight Movies years earlier, Penny sent a message to the one mutual friend they both had asking if she might be willing to join a new band. Surprisingly, she was really into the band and all of the them became best friends.
  • The staff of the Spinner website voted the Dum Dum Girls track, "Coming Down" as their best song of 2011.
