Songfacts®:

  • Hardy, Hunter Phelps, Ben Johnson, and Ashley Gorley penned this song about a heartbroken man haunted by remembrances of his former girlfriend. Every time he gets into his truck, memories of their time together come flooding back. The guy decides he needs to get a new truck to quit thinking about his lost love.
  • Dylan Scott recorded "New Truck" for the follow-up to his hit single, "Nobody." "The lyrics talk about finding her chapstick or ponytail holder, and the only way to get away from that is to get a new truck," Scott told American Songwriter. "So it's a pretty cool spin on it, and I think it's very relatable to everybody."
  • Dylan Scott was actually sitting in his truck when he first listened to the demo, and it brought back his only experience with romantic despair. The Louisiana native first dated his high school sweetheart, Blair, when he was 15, and they married on May 28, 2016. However, they split for three long months when the singer was about 20. "It was tough, dude," Scott admitted to Taste Of Country. "Hopping up in that truck and used to seeing her over there and going here and doing that."
  • Will Weatherly, Matt Alderman, Curt Gibbs and Jim Ed Norman produced the song. Its toe-tapping, energetic vibe is in marked contrast to the anguished lyrics.
  • Tim McGraw released a single with a similar theme in 2020. "7500 OBO" finds him singing of selling his beloved dark blue 2006 Ford F-150 because of the painful memories it holds.
  • The four songwriters penned both "New Truck" and Hardy's hit single, "Give Heaven Some Hell," during a writing retreat in July 2019 at Gorley's home. Phelps, Hardy, Gorley and Johnson wrote "Give Heaven Some Hell" on their first evening, and "New Truck" was the first song they penned the next morning. "I had a title idea called 'Old Songs, New Truck,' or something like that," Phelps recalled to Billboard. "Ashley heard 'New Truck' and jumped all over it as a song."

  • Sharon Moore Rogers from Wewahitchka, FloridaDylan Scott sings about songs that are so relatable to many. i enjoy his videos. He shares such laughter with many. its nice to see a real man that has humor, a love for his family, determination for his career. And a huge team player attitude. Dylan Scott bring your family and bandmates to see the Deadlakes here in Wewahitchka, Florida. We will catch some freshwater fish, eat some oysters, and get sandy and toasted on the beach. Life is simple here in our small town. My dad is a 74 & and 34 years in Army. Dad battles with dementia after his stroke in 2018 but he sings Dylan Scott songs like he is right there with the band. Making his daughter proud!
