Songfacts®:

  • Don Henley and Glenn Frey penned this song for the One of These Nights album. Frey wrote the verses with a little help from Henley, whilst the drummer/lead vocalist did the bridge.
  • The song contains a lot of self-examination. Henley later commented on the liner notes for The Very Best Of The Eagles: "As exciting as the whole Eagles thing was at times, some of the luster was beginning to wear off. We were combining our personal and professional lives in song."

  • Pancho Villa from UsaSame dances in the same old shoes
  • L. D. from Los Angeles Circa 1974Don explained the meaning of "After the Thrill is Gone" so succinctly: "some of the luster was beginning to wear off".
  • Bill from Santa Rosa CaIt's a classic Eagles ballad. One that can only be performed by them for the integrity.
