Songfacts®:

  • Ed Sheeran closes his Equals record with this bubbling, beat-driven number containing a live-in-the-moment message.
  • During the writing of Equals, Sheeran lost his close friend Michael Gudinski and became a father for the first time. After these two milestone events, the songs poured out. "The theme of the record is me turning 30, becoming a dad, losing a friend, trying to balance work and marriage," he told Apple Music.
  • Sheeran purposefully wrote "Be Right Now" as the closing track to Equals. "It felt like the end of the record, my family basically going back into our world," he told Apple Music. "The album literally starts with you being slapped in the face with noise, and the album ends with a vocoder choir singing really gently and easing you out. I just liked it - I really, really like the sound of it."
  • Sheeran co-wrote and co-produced the song with his regular collaborators, Johnny McDaid and Fred again.
  • The musicians are:

Johnny McDaid: Electric guitar, acoustic guitar
    Fred again: Keyboards, drums, bass
    Marco Parisi: Strings, piano

Classically trained Italian musician Marco Parisi and his brother Giampaolo Parisi are regular Fred again collaborators, including six co-production and co-writing credits on the producer's debut album Actual Life. The Parisi siblings are additional producers on three Equals tracks, including "Be Right Now.
