Songfacts®:

  • Ed Sheeran grew up in the provincial Eastern England town of Framlingham, Suffolk. In 2008, he moved to London to pursue his music career, playing small venues and busking. As Sheeran's career prospered, he spent most of his time touring or in his London home, but also bought a property near Framlingham. After marrying Cherry Seaborn in January 2019, the superstar announced he would be semi-retiring to his Suffolk estate. Here, Sheeran sings of enjoying the slower pace of life with Cherry in his rural abode.
  • And I wanna love tonight
One on one by the candlelight
Over and over, we spend our lives
Living fast forward but not tonight
    Love in slow motion

In London, there's always something going on. But once Ed and Cherry moved to their Suffolk estate full-time, they could enjoy each other's company more. "We would start having evenings where it was like, 'Oh man, this is really nice. How are you?'" Sheeran told Apple Music. "'Love in Slow Motion' is basically about switching all of that off and enjoying each other's company and realizing why you love each other."
  • Sheeran recorded "Love in Slow Motion" for his Equals album. It is one of several tracks on the record inspired by his relationship with Cherry. Others include "2step," "The Joker And The Queen," and "First Times."
  • Sheeran wrote the song with:

His go-to songwriting partner, Johnny McDaid. The Snow Patrol guitarist co-penned 10 out of the 14 tracks on Equals, including the singles "Bad Habits," "Shivers" and "Overpass Graffiti."

Nashville singer-songwriter Natalie Hemby (Little Big Town's "Pontoon," Lady A's "Downtown," Rag'n'Bone Man's "All You Ever Wanted"). This is Hemby's first collaboration with Sheeran, but she has also written with Foy Vance, who the flame-haired singer signed to his Gingerbread Man Records.
  • Sheeran co-produced the track with McDaid and his regular producer, Fred again.
