Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Ed Sheeran going Latino as he recruits Argentinian rapper Paulo Londra to deliver a verse in Spanish. It's the first Ed Sheeran track to feature a Hispanic artist (If you discount his collaboration with the Cuban-American Camila Cabello on "South Of The Border"). "Nothing on You" also marks Sheeran's first truly bilingual tune.
  • Londra's contribution to the song came about at the last minute. He revealed to Billboard that the album was already "closed," but it ended up coming together just in time.

Londra added that one of the main purposes of recording with the English pop superstar was to inspire other Latin artists to dream big. "Great things come if you work hard for this," he noted.
  • The track also features a verse by London rapper Dave. It is one of three collaborations with rap artists from England on No. 6 Collaborations Project, the other two being Stormzy on "Take Me Back To London" and J Hus on "Feels."
  • Lyrically, this is a love song in which Sheeran tells us he would rather spend time with his lover than party.

All my friends are in the club
And they keep ringing my phone
But they ain't got nothing on you

Londra compares his relationship to a romance movie that "just can't end." Meanwhile, Dave shows his love for his lady by buying her expensive outfits.
  • The song's music video features Ed Sheeran, Paulo Londra and Dave riding bikes around London in the dark of the night. Interspersed throughout are shots of the trio performing the song in an empty warehouse and in a lot surrounded by shipping containers.

The video was directed by the online youth broadcasting channel SBTV Music. Sheeran's career got a big boost when SBTV uploaded his first live session of "You Need Me I Don't Need You" back in 2010.
