Songfacts®:

  • Sheeran sings here about losing the girl, and wanting her back. When asked by American Songwriter magazine how he penned his lyrics, Sheeran replied that he wrote them off the top of the head a large amount of the time. He added: "I'll record all the guitars and go in the booth and just write it line by line off the top."
  • Gordon Mills Jr. co-wrote this song with Sheeran. Mills' namesake father managed the careers of vocalists Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones and co-wrote the latter's signature song "It's Not Unusual." Mills Jr. is a producer, songwriter and multi-instrument session musician whose credits include Newton Faulkner's UK hit "Dream Catch Me."
