Songfacts®:

  • Like a number of other tracks on the Killer on the Rampage album, this song carried a subtle political message, in this instance about Britain being a land of class and color divisions. Grant explained to the Daily Telegraph June 27, 2008: "I Don't Wanna Dance can mean that you don't want to go out on the dancefloor, or it could mean that you don't want to go along with an idea. That's how I try to write: you take it how you want, but I am basically a writer of protest."
  • This was Grant's only UK #1 as a solo artist. He'd previously topped the charts in 1968, when he was a member of the Equals, with "Baby Come Back."
