Songfacts®:

  • The song's music video, shot entirely on an iPhone 6s in New Orleans, marks the directorial debut of Hollywood actress Olivia Wilde (Her, Better Living Through Chemistry, Vinyl). Wilde is a longtime friend of the band's lead singer Alex Ebert and manager Bryan Ling. The actress teamed up with Vinyl cinematographer Reed Morano who affixed high-end lenses to the iPhones for a true film-like look.
  • Wilde pitched the concept of having Magnetic Zeros' singer Alex Ebert stumbling upon his own funeral, an idea that unknown to her fitted well with the concept of the PersonA album. "When I pitched Alex [Ebert] my [video] idea, weirdly and serendipitously, it matched with what he was trying to say with the album," the actress told Rolling Stone. "I heard a little bit of 'No Love Like Yours' and I thought, 'What is this? This is the one!'"
  • Ebert has spoken of killing off his Edward Sharpe persona, which is why the album art sees the name bluntly crossed out. He explained: "Months before Olivia and I had spoken about doing a video, I had come up with this idea for artwork for this new album where it says, 'Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros,' and I cross out 'Edward Sharpe.' It was sort of this death of the persona. We ended up talking, and she's like, 'OK, I want to pitch this to you, and don't take this the wrong way, but my idea is you'd be at your own funeral.' And I was like, 'Perfect.'"
  • Asked by Billboard magazine why the video was shot in New Orleans, Wilde replied: "Alex lives there, and I was inspired by the idea of using the city that inspired the album. [We shot it] partially in his home, which is a historic music studio, Piety Studios. It's an amazing space - like a cathedral. The best music videos are pretty personal, even if they're surreal. Not to sound too corny, but the vibe was kind of extraordinary - I think New Orleans does that to you."
  • The video was the first Wilde directed, but she has featured as an actress in them before for Dashboard Confessional ("Stolen"), Daft Punk ("Derezzed") and 30 Seconds To Mars ("City of Angels").
