Songfacts®:

  • Losing Sleep is the seventh solo album by the Scottish singer/songwriter Edwyn Collins. The album was recorded at Collins' West Heath Studios and was his first release following a double brain haemorrhage in 2005.
  • The album began when a melody came to Collins in the middle of the night. Collins' partner Grace recalled to The Sun: "He dug me in the ribs and said, 'Write this down.' Then he sang it to me. That was in November 2008 and since then he's been off and running, which is brilliant. Before that we weren't sure if he could or ever would write music again."
  • Collins told The Sun: "Losing Sleep has an upbeat sound because I feel alive and feel happy with life's ups and downs."
  • Collins told Q magazine April 2011: "On Losing Sleep, I'm singing about my stroke. How it affected me and the problems I face. Coming to terms with it and finding some way to communicate what I'm thinking."
