Songfacts®:

  • The country quartet Eli Young Band formed in 2000 in Denton, Texas, where vocalist Mike Eli and guitarist James Young met as freshman roommates at the University of North Texas. The band became local favorites, building up a strong fan base through frequent touring and releasing two independent albums before striking a deal with Universal Music Group in 2008. "Life At Best" is the title track of their second major label album. James Young told The Boot why they named the long player after this song: "It encompasses all of the things we've done in the past 10 years, and it's a song about no matter what station in life you're at, you still have struggles and even when you get successful, you've got to maintain. We're somewhere in the middle of all that craziness right now, and it was hopeful. We're suckers for the hopeful and positive songs, so we felt that it encompassed all the ideas we had going into this record."
  • The song's music video finds the band returning to the University of North Texas, as they recreate some fun experiences they had on campus at their alma mater.
