Songfacts®:

  • For this song, Ellie Goulding teamed up with the American songwriter Greg Kurstin, who also assisted Adele on "Hello."

Kurstin contributed to seven tracks on Delirium, while Swedish hit maker Max Martin (Britney Spears, Taylor Swift) helped her on another six. "People are still unsure about my voice… people either love it or hate it, but I love that 'cause it keeps it interesting," Goulding told BBC Radio. "So I wondered what would happen with the context of working with Max and Greg Kurstin, and they're still very intuitive about what I wanted to make, so it's not like they had songs and I sang on them."

"It was very much a collaborative process, and it was me and my unique take on it," she added. "I keep saying it's a pop album, it's a bit different."
  • The song (which is nothing to do with the Beatles' "Something") finds Goulding describing a doomed attraction.

But tonight I'm gonna lose it all
Playing with fire, I was the first to fall
Heart is sinking like a cannonball
Baby kill me, what are you waiting for?
Something in the way you move

Goulding can't help herself. She is full of lust for the guy even though he knows he is destined to break her heart.
  • The song's performance music video was shot during Goulding's Delirium World Tour stop on February 9, 2016 in Antwerp, Belgium, which found her performing for a 19,000-strong crowd.
