Songfacts®:

  • Superstars Lady Gaga and Elton John paired up to record this original duet for the soundtrack to the animated feature film Gnomeo and Juliet. John, who also served as the movie's executive producer, explained to Access Hollywood that he approached Gaga about singing on the song after her performance at his 2010 White Tie & Tiara Ball charity event: "We became friends, and I adore her," he said. "I told her about the song, and she said, 'I'd love to do it,' and she did it. We're just so thrilled she took time out of her incredibly busy schedule to do it."

John added that Gaga put her own spin on the pop tune. "She had fun with it and changed it a little bit and brought her own personality to it, so she gave Juliet that personality," he said.
  • The soundtrack version of the song only features Elton John, while the movie rendition includes the duet between the two artists.
  • This pop ditty is the first collaboration between John and Gaga, but the two superstars have shared the stage several times since the couple performed a mash-up of their respective hits "Your Song" and "Speechless" at the 2010 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
  • This song was Gaga's first original contribution to a movie. However, John has dabbled in film soundtracks on a number of previous occasions, including his Oscar-winning contribution to The Lion King.
