  • This was the first song Elvis Costello ever wrote. He recalled to Mojo: "It was called 'Winter' and very much the song you would write when you're 15 - in E minor, quasi-poetic, very gloomy. A lot of my songs from that time were, You're just trying to find these different... languages to write in. and you write in imitation of the people you like, don't you?"
