Songfacts®:

  • Eminem kicks off Music To Be Murdered by ruminating on the negative response to his two previous albums. He responds to the criticism of Revival and Kamikaze by exposing his detractors' hypocrisy.

Mathers explains on the song that he responded to his listeners requesting more-substantial content with Revival. Several tracks had a political slant, including "Like Home" where he compared Donald Trump to Hitler. However, the audience tore into the new "awake" Eminem, accusing him of being "too tame" with too many pop-features and weak lyrics.

Em reacted to the criticism by releasing Kamikaze, bringing back the anger and rage to his music. This time the critics said he sounded bitter.

Along with outlining the inconsistency of the faultfinders, Eminem also defends during the track his legacy and longevity of his rap career.
  • The sample you hear during the track is Alfred Hitchcock's chilling narration from the intro of his 1958 Music to Be Murdered By compilation album. The LP was the only album Hitchcock ever released, and was a collection of bits of the director's macabre humor in between songs.
  • The song features a haunting vocal on the hook by Nikki Grier, a member of Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir.
