Songfacts®:

  • Here, Eminem takes us back to his hellraising early days when he used to hang out with his rap crew, D-12. He tells us about some girls he hooked up with while high on drugs at nightclubs. Em conveys a certain ambivalence towards these ladies, saying "opposites attract, I'm someone, you're a no one."
  • Ed Sheeran croons the chorus in which he invites a girl to spend the night smoking, drinking and dancing with him. The song is their third collaboration, following Eminem's 2017 Revival track "River" and "Remember The Name" on the Brit's 2019 No 6 Collaborations Project.
  • This trop house, club-based production comes courtesy of Eminem Chicago native DA Doman and regular Sheeran collaborator Fred Gibson. The beat is one of three credits on Music to Be Murdered By that DA Doman has; the other two being "Godzilla" and "No Regrets."
  • Doman created the beats for "Godzilla" and "Those Kind of Nights" in late 2018 or early 2019. He told Rolling Stone that he doesn't remember the specific sessions when he made their instrumentations. "I make one [beat], move on to the next one," he said.

Doman sent them off and only discovered he would be on Music to Be Murdered By when Eminem's team asked for paperwork.
