Songfacts®:

  • Before the Internet made them all but redundant, there were many small, independent music fanzines of varying quality, both content and production-wise. One such magazine interviewed Pete Wakefield of the English Dogs for issue #8.

This was a weird interview in a weird magazine. A4 size with a glossy cover, it was called Product #8 and from the other end, printed the other way up way, PUNK SHOCKER #9, issue 5 of which was said to be its fifth and final.

In Product #8, vocalist Wakey was asked about the 12 inch EP Mad Punx & English Dogs. There is, it was put to him, only one track on that record that is not about death: Max The Millionaire.

Asked what had inspired this particular song, he replied "Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher. Fact baby."

This was a reference to Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of England at the time the magazine was founded.
  • Running 2:29, "Max (The Millionaire)" is certainly classic punk; credited on the vinyl to Wakefield/Murray/Pinching/Watson, it is the first of three tracks on Side A. >>
