The final track to be completed for Dark Sky Island, "Echoes in Rain" was the first single to be released from the album. It premiered on October 8, 2015 on Ken Bruce's BBC Radio 2 show.
The song celebrates the anticipation of a journey's end. Lyricist Roma Ryan explained: "With this, it's more like you're coming home. It's that love you feel when you're approaching home after being away for a long time. It's a long journey, you're traveling through night, through day. It's that beauty of finding your place again, your space again."
Enya is a frequent user of the word "Rain" in her song titles. Other precipitation-named tunes by the Irish musician include ' "A Day Without Rain," "It's In The Rain" and "The Trains and Winter Rains."
