  • Here, a broken-hearted Eric Church walks into a dive bar he's not visited before. He's met by someone known as the Mad Hatter, who points out to the singer some of the other regulars that frequent the joint. They are all lost, lonely and heartbroken people: Sad, Regret, Sorrows, Out Of His Mind and Insane are hanging out and listening to the blues. As someone who has just split from his lover, Church fits right in.
  • Eric Church literally dreamed up the song during a January 2020 writing and recording retreat.

    Church and his crew recorded 28 songs over 28 days at an old restaurant in the mountains of his home state of North Carolina that they turned into a studio for the occasion. It was an exhausting schedule as the sessions kept the singer and his cohorts up late, then unable to unwind, he struggled to sleep.

    "I actually dreamed the chorus of the song, and I woke up... and I wrote it down, and then I ended up writing the rest of the song to the chorus," Church told country radio DJ Bobby Bones. "I guess when you get to a creative point, you get in the groove like that... I was crazy at the time, so, you know," he added with a chuckle.
  • Church co-wrote "Crazyland" with Nashville songwriters Luke Laird and Michael Heeney. Other collaborations between the trio include Church's first country #1, "Drink In My Hand."
  • Country singer Joanna Cotten provides soulful vocal harmony throughout the song. The longtime Eric Church backing vocalist also features prominently on "Bad Mother Trucker."
  • Church's regular producer, Jay Joyce, helmed the track.
