Songfacts®:

  • Eric Clapton wrote this bluesy rocker with Simon Climie, a keyboard player who had a hit with his duo Climie Fisher in 1988 with "Love Changes (Everything)." Climie was Clapton's main collaborator on the Pilgrim album, co-producing it with Clapton and co-writing six of the tracks.
  • "Sick And Tired" is almost a parody of blues songs, playing on the trope of "my woman left me" heartbreak. In the song, Clapton replaces his woman with a parrot.

Clapton told Guitar World Magazine that the song honors Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan, and was done for fun. "The riff came first and I just thought of the Vaughan brothers. I told Simon (Climie) to program a shuffle and exaggerate the back beat so it would sound like a Texas-style groove. I began improvising silly lyrics and thought, 'Well, I might as well make it a song now.' It's a spoof, really." >>>
