Songfacts®:

  • This song doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's not supposed to. The song is Hutchinson's ode to marijuana, which he discovered later in life. It took him a while to figure out how to enjoy it properly, but it became an important part of his self-medication routine.
  • Much of the album deals with the ups and downs of chemical happiness; Hutchinson has battled depression his whole life and started taking Prozac when he began work on it. Pot is another way he regulates. "I enjoy marijuana as a way to decompress and appreciate the little details of life that I've gotten good at overlooking," he explained. "These lyrics are a meditation on taking the judgment out of modern happiness. If it's pills, if it's drugs, if it's exercise - you've gotta seize happiness and contentment however you can get it in these modern times."
  • The line, "The wolfman told me to be careful, love can bite" is a nod to "Werewolves Of London" by Warren Zevon.
  • In a Songfacts interview with Hutchinson, he talked about his relationship with marijuana: "The way I use it, I get a lot of empathy and consideration from marijuana. It's the closest I ever get to not being myself, or to seeing things from a different point-of-view, and as somebody who has a lot of feelings, I'm able to treat myself with more kindness and I just feel like I can relax in a way that maybe I can't do all the time."
