This got the attention of Maverick Records, the label co-founded by Madonna that issued Alanis Morissette's material. They signed him in 2005, but the label fell into disrepair, leaving Eric in the lurch.
  
  "I was back living at home with my parents and trying to decide if I wanted to do music anymore," he said in a Songfacts interview. "I was trying to find some presence and to allow the process to be the process. It was me trying to cheer myself up and say, 'Look, whatever's gonna happen's gonna happen, and it'll work out.'"
