Songfacts®:

  • Eugene McGuinness is a British singer-songwriter of Irish heritage, who released a critically acclaimed eponymous debut album in 2008 and a second release as frontman of Eugene + the Lizards the following year. McGuinness spent 2010 as Miles Kane's touring and session guitarist, whilst recording his third album, The Invitation To The Voyage in London.
  • This is the first single to be released from The Invitation To The Voyage. He explained its meaning to Q magazine: "The song's about being manipulated. Eventually you decided you're not going to put up with it."
  • The song's music video sees McGuinness being stalked by four dancers. He told Q: "You know (in real life) it wouldn't be half bad. But I think I'm a frustrated song-and-dance man at heart."
